Parliament

Our new topic this term is about The elections that are coming up and parliament. I never really understood what parliament was about or how the elections have worked but I have learnt a few things from class and my sister is also told me a bit about it (She is learning about parliament in her college, Coincidence!).

One really interesting fact that I have learnt is that parliament actually comes from the word"parler" in french. This means to talk, to speak and lots of other words that relate to talk. I also found out what MMP stands for ( Mixed Member Proportional). In class we talked a bit about the building part of parliament which were the beehive (also known as the executive wing), The parliament library, the Bowen house and the parliament house.

Here is a picture of the four buildings

I learnt about the debating chamber and how it is used for lots of things. It can be used for debating people who are in the news and for hosting school things. But it is mostly used for debating (Arguing about a subject in a formal manner). The sovereign (Head of state) Is not allowed to enter the debating chamber due to an issue that happened with a king in the 1800's. This means governor general is not allowed in the debating chamber.

This is a picture of what a debating chamber looks like.

I have learnt heaps of interesting facts about parliament  from just 1 lesson and it all makes sense to me.

Tell me what you guys have learnt about parliament?

Reading challenges

This term I have completed only a few reading challenges. I absolutely love to read books when I have some free time but none of them fit into the categories that are on the list. These are some of the challenges on the list :

10 book challenge: Read 10 books in one term

20 book challenge: Read 20 books in one term

Random challenge: Read a book that you pick off a shelf looking without looking
Series Challenge: Read 3 books in a series
Classic challenge: Read a book from the classic series section of the list.
Family challenge: Read a book recommended by a family member
Space challenge: Read a book set in space

The challenges I have done from this list are: The 10 book challenge, Random challenge and the Series challenge. I am planning to do the family and classic challenge next. My dad has recommended the rangers apprentice for me to read so I think I might read that next. For the classic challenge I might read little woman.

The book I have read for the random challenge is Hex hall. The books I read for the series challenge was the two other books in the series of hex hall (Demon glass and Spell Bound). These books are quite good and are written by Rachel Hawkins. I have read some other books from her and they are also very good. For the 10 book challenge I have read Hex hall, Demon glass, Spell bound, Rebel Belle, School spirits, Else where, If I just had two wings, Dork diaries 7, Dork diaries and Nanny Piggins 3.

Suggest book down below for me to read :)

Ballet

Think of this . . . . . .
Going outside, getting muddy and going out in the cold rain just to throw or kick a ball.
Now think of this . . . . . . .
Nice cozy outfit, warm inside, dancing and stretching . . .
Now which one of these would you prefer?
For me it would be number 2 because that is what I do.
If you chose number 1 well then think again.
I don't play any rough sports including balls or bats etc. But I do ballet! Some people might not consider it as a sport but I do because its the only thing I can do well. I'm a grade 6 in ballet now (yay!) and will be starting point next year. This is the best sport ever!!!! If your a boy and are reading this post I'd just like to say that not only girls do ballet but so do boys! It is a nice and calming sport that includes good arm and leg movement.

It does not hurt you in any way and is really cool. Some people i know have quit ballet but I tell you that if you are one of those people reading this right now, join again. It might not be fun when your grade 1 but once your at my level its amazing! The benefits of this sport is that you are able to stretch better and become more flexible. The skills you learn are how to do an arebesk, pardeboregh and lots of other french word movements. Some people find ballet boring but what makes it fun is if you make it fun and enjoy your self and stay positive all of the time!! If your going to be all sad and dopey its not going to be much fun. So if your a boy or girl I sujest you sign up for ballet today and give it a try (Trust me it'll be worth it).
If you have a question about ballet just ask me down below!
These are point shoes by the way. When you get to grade 6 in ballet you get to go on point! So get amongst ballet today.

PRODUCTION PREPARATION

This term room 11 & 12 are mostly focusing on production and it has been awesome but confusing at the same time!!! I have got a main role in the production and my character is Neon. Neon is a villain and tries to act bad and mean but is actually quite a softy inside. I enjoy playing Neon because number 1, he has a cat called fluffy and I absolutely love cats (everyone should probably know that by now) all shapes and sizes. Neon has a lot of lines to learn and I have defiantly learnt them all because I pushed myself a lot in the holidays and decided to learn 2 scenes per day.

It was harder than I thought but hey, I managed it! I am in the dance tainted love and I have to learn two parts to it. I am in the dance both nights but I have a sort of solo part on the night I'm playing neon and I'm in the front line of the dance but on the night I'm not playing Neon I'm dancing at the back of the group with no solo. I am coping well with the dance and have learnt the parts that I am supposed to learn. I think that the way to get myself more prepared for the production is to recap over my lines everyday at home. I think I can get others more prepared by talking with them through their lines. The song tainted love is so catchy so press the link to hear it!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEh5pWjcWCg&safe=active

Tell me what you guys are doing for the production?

Let it go!!

Sometimes I like to sit back and sing songs in my head . . . . . . .
But I don't really know what their about or what the words mean. There is one or two songs that I do get and one of those songs is "Let it go" sung by Idina Menzel. It is a song in the movie Frozen and all you hear these days is people constantly singing this song . It is such an inspirational and meaningful song to me and I actually get what it means.

This song is basically about letting go, putting the past in the past and just taking away the feelings that control you and pushing them away! It does sound weird but when you think about it, it all makes sense. I like this song because its absolutely fun to sing and catchy and its got some good lessons and inspirational stuff in it. Its defiantly in the top five of my song list because its that good! If you haven't heard the song let it go then you should go onto you tube and search up

Idina Menzel - Let It Go (from "Frozen")

. I guarantee you'll love it!

Tell me what songs are meaningful to you?

Until next time . . . .

MY EGYPTIAN ARTWOK!

In the past few weeks room 12 and 11 have been learning about ancient Egypt and taking making Egyptian art work. We put a picture of an Egyptian on a page and surrounded it by hieroglyphics. My picture is of a person who is sitting on his chair with a woman worshiping him. The woman is cropped out of this picture though. I used blue, yellow, black, pink and brown die.  We painted it with a thin brush and outlined it with a black sharpie or vivid. It took quite a while to do but it was really fun! What I liked about this painting is that I think I nailed the picture in the middle and none of the die used in my painting has bled out of the sharpie.  I really like how I drew all the hieroglyphics because they were all perfect and drawn to scale!

Here is a picture of my art!

What did you guys draw for your painting?

This week has been packed with Egyptian activities hosted by my classmates. I have learnt so much out of all of it such as the names of the gods and what their powers are. I also learnt that Cleopatra had children and she was a queen of Egypt and that the Egyptians actually had bows and arrows! There is heaps more information that I have learnt but I won't list all of them.

The activities that i learnt most from was probably the Cleopatra, farming and gods activities. These were very interesting and made me want to hear more and more. We also had an activity to complete after a slide show with information on it.

Here is a picture of the gods I learnt about

Our class was packed with activities running through lunch to the end of the day. Some of my favorite activities to do were making a collage of Cleopatra which was a big flop, Playing hunger games on mine craft (which i was terrible at because i was the first to dye by drowning in lava)! The best activity that I enjoyed the most and thought passed the time well was playing gods dodge ball. Thanks to all the organizers who put lots of effort into their slideshows and activities!

Tell me what you guys did for your Egypt group activity or slideshow?
